Shutting down Movietonne
Although they had a rocket start, very soon they started facing the financial issue related to Startups. Maintaining such a high volume of data was not an easy task. Maintaining two redundant servers and other security aspects results in piling up the expenses after 6 months. Searching for an investor in such an early stage of a startup was not less than a gigantic task. On the bright side, for watching the Assamese movies online 2000+ users have been registered in the platform. For its unique concept of vision, this startup got selected in Startup Assam – The NEST during its first incubation period. The Startup Assam – The NEST initiative is the collaboration of the Govt of Assam with IIM – Kolkata. During that period it was the topmost movie streaming platform of Northeast India.
According to their claim, after a certain period of time, they could not maintain the platform due to the high pile of expenses and collecting more debt due to unavoidable expenditure.
On July 29, 2019, Movietonne announces its shutting down followed by the website and official accounts on the social media platform.

This is a reminder that on July 29, 2019, we’re shutting down Movietonne and will begin deleting content from our servers. Each movie from our Archive including your Movietonne accounts will also be deleted. After almost one year of sparking connections with you people, we have decided it’s time for us to start saying goodbye to Movietonne. Given the challenges in creating and maintaining the product that meets our consumer/users expectations, we decided to sunset Movietonne. To be clear, we weren’t randomly reckless or fast and loose with our money. We had invested a lot of money over the last few months – including those from our personal individual projects – into building the alternative platform of our dreams.
But with no incoming revenue and operational costs piling up, we had to make some hard, and unfortunately permanent, decisions. While we may not have a complete roadmap yet, we are sure of one thing going forward – we never want to stop entertaining. Showing a ray of hope for the Industry has been the great privilege of our lives and we hope to be able to keep doing that, in whatever new form the future holds for us. So once again, thank you for letting us into your world. It has been an honour.
